How Discord timestamps work #

A Discord timestamp is <t:UNIX:STYLE>, where UNIX is the number of seconds since January 1, 1970 (UTC) and STYLE is one letter. Paste the code into any message, embed description, field or bot reply. If you leave the style off (<t:1767225600>) Discord uses f.

In a bot (discord.py) #

import discord
from datetime import datetime, timezone

when = datetime(2026, 12, 31, 18, 0, tzinfo=timezone.utc)
text = f"Event starts {discord.utils.format_dt(when, 'F')} ({discord.utils.format_dt(when, 'R')})"

In discord.js: time(date, TimestampStyles.RelativeTime) from discord.js.
