Minecraft MOTD generator

1 min readUpdated Nov 3, 2026

Make a colored Minecraft server MOTD with a live preview and copy the exact server.properties line. Supports colors, bold, italic and two lines.

Type your MOTD (the message under your server name in the multiplayer list), see a live preview, and copy the line for server.properties. Use & codes for colors and styles.

Colors: &0-&9, &a-&f · Bold &l · Italic &o · Underline &n · Strike &m · Reset &r

Bedrock servers show a single line (server-name in server.properties); colors there use § codes too.

Tips for a good MOTD #

  • Lead with what makes your server different (game mode, events, crossplay), not just the name.
  • Keep each line under about 45 characters so it isn't cut off in the server list.
  • Two or three colors read better than a rainbow.
  • Restart the server after you change server.properties.
Need a server to put it on? ESN sets up Paper, Purpur, Fabric, Forge and Bedrock servers for you, online 24/7. See plans · Setup guide
