Host a Discord music bot 24/7

3 min readUpdated Nov 3, 2026

Want a music bot that stays in voice all day without your PC on? Get our ready-made music bot template and run it 24/7 on ESN Hosting. It plays internet radio and direct audio links.

Get the music bot template ($4.99) at listings.esnoffical.com/templates, then host it on ESN from $0.50/month.

What the template does #

  • /radio with 5 built-in stations (add your own in settings.json).
  • /play any direct audio link: mp3, ogg, m4a or a radio stream URL.
  • Queue, /skip, /nowplaying and /volume (1-100).
  • Leaves the voice channel by itself when everyone else has left.
  • No YouTube or Spotify, so your bot stays within their terms.

Set it up in 3 steps #

  1. Get the template. Buy the Music bot template ($4.99) at listings.esnoffical.com/templates. You can download the zip right away, and the link is emailed to you too.
  2. Get a bot plan. Pick a Discord bot plan on the plans page. Bot hosting starts at $0.50/month and your server is created right after checkout.
  3. Upload and start it. Unzip the template, copy .env.example to .env and paste your bot token (see how to create a bot and get its token). Upload the files in the panel's file manager or over SFTP, set the start file to bot.py and press Start. Setup steps are also in README.md inside the zip.

Which plan? #

Music needs more memory than a chat bot because audio is decoded live. Start with Starter (512 MB) or Basic (1 GB). You can move to a bigger plan later. See how much RAM a bot needs.

Why no YouTube? #

YouTube, Spotify and similar services don't allow bots to stream their music, and big public music bots were shut down for it. Our template plays radio stations and direct links you have the right to play, so your bot doesn't get taken down.

Change it or bring your own code #

You get the full source code: plain, readable Python you can edit in the file manager or over SFTP. Radio stations live in settings.json and your token stays in .env on your server only. Already have your own bot? Upload it and start it instead.

FAQ #

Can the music bot play YouTube links? #

No. YouTube and Spotify terms forbid bots streaming their music. The template plays internet radio and direct audio links.

How much RAM does a Discord music bot need? #

Plan on at least 512 MB. Audio is decoded live with FFmpeg, which uses more memory than a normal chat bot.

Does it stay online when my PC is off? #

Yes. It runs on ESN's servers 24/7, not on your computer.

Can I add my own radio stations? #

Yes. Add a name and stream URL to "stations" in settings.json, then restart.
